Artist's Retreat Almeria
The Accommodation
Traditional Spanish rooms situated in the East wing of the poet Federico García Lorca’s former home located in the central historical quarter of Almeria city.
The retreat can accommodate up to three artists staying from one week to several months occupying one private room each
Each room overlooks the bust of Lorca among the orange trees in Calle Maestro Rodriguez Espinosa
The kitchen / living room & toilet / shower room are shared
About
The retreat is designed for artist’s of all disciplines inc writers photographers painters sculptors performance artists etc and is ideal for those who require time out for research reflection exploration etc
★ The accommodation does not include studio space so while a writer or digital artist photographer etc might use some of their time at the retreat to get work done
a painter or sculptor cannot create work on site nor can a musician rehearse or perform
Artists are not obliged to stay at the retreat for every night of their booking but refunds are not provided for cancellations or unoccupied rooms
The Area
The centrally located accommodation is just a minute walk from the Andalusian gallery of photography and a three minute walk to the newly restored Museum of Realism, the Guitar Museum and the 17th century Cathedral of Almeria A five minute walk through the narrow streets will take you to the ancient alcazabra [built in 955 AD] and numerous restaurants cafes bars and mini markets The port of Almeria is also just a three minute walk away - Twenty minutes on foot to the beach [there is a regular bus service] Thirty five minute bus or taxi ride to the Tabernas desert - The shoot location for films such as The Good the Bad and the Ugly For a Few Dollars ore ond Laurence of Arabia
Almeria is the sunniest region in Spain and contains Europe’s only desert and 11 Blue flag beaches
The Cabo de Gata-Níjar Natural Park (one hour bus ride) was designated a Unesco Biosphere Reserve in 1997 and in 2001 was included among the Specially Protected Areas of Mediterranean Importance.
Fee:
200 Euro per artist per week - Includes Wifi & electricity Note: A Spouse partner or friend may stay with you in your room at an extra charge of 100 euro per week - Payable in advance on arrival. [cash only]
Preferred language for communication is English ‘though guests are not required to be fluent English speakers.
Minimum length of stay - One week.
